About Driven The members of Driven all hail from other established, well-known local bands such as Prowler, J.C. Roxx, Diamondback and Mach 5. Driven’s current line-up features four highly talented musicians, each bringing with them years of entertainment and stage performance experience, along with some serious musical equipment, which makes for an intense combination of talent and style that you won’t find anywhere else.
So, just who drives Driven?
Mike Barber - guitars/vocals Mike is an extremely accomplished and versatile guitarist. His main influences include Randy Rhoads, Ace Frehley and Eddie Van Halen. Mike was a founding member of the local band Prowler, and has years of experience with the club scene in Northeast Florida. In 1991, Prowler recorded and released an independent demo of original songs, and received some radio play on Jacksonville’s Rock 105. The demo did very well on a local level and drew the attention of several production companies. After striking a deal with Hurricane Productions (Louisiana), Prowler toured the Southeastern US, playing the "A Club" Circuit scene. That same year, Guitar For The Practicing Musician magazine selected Mike’s guitar talent on the Prowler demo to be featured in their “Spotlight On New Guitar Talent” column. Mike also won an Honorable Mention in a worldwide guitar solo competition sponsored by Marshall amplification. In 1992, Mike met Jorge Colgan and Tory Ivy of Diamondback and became the lead guitarist, and the three of them have been performing together for over 19 years now.
Jorge "Thumper" Colgan - drums/vocals Jorge is well versed in all styles of percussion including jazz, blues, big band, and, of course, rock & roll. He has an incredible drum kit along with a massive variety of percussion accessories, and puts every bit of it to work with each live performance. There’s never a dull moment when Jorge is playing! Jorge was a founding member of the local bands J.C. Roxx and Eden. He was offered an opportunity to go on the road with Richard Marx in early 1991, however the tour never materialized due to problems with Richard's health. Later that year, Jorge formed the band Diamondback with Tory Ivy on lead vocals. In 1992, they teamed up with Mike Barber and shortly thereafter, Diamondback became one of the top-drawing, most- requested bands in the Northeast Florida and South Georgia area. The band enjoyed tremendous local success and developed quite a loyal following, however, Diamondback eventually disbanded in 1997. Jorge and Mike then created a new band called Mach 5, with Shawn Copher playing bass guitar. Although Mach 5 was short-lived, Driven was ultimately reborn from its ashes…
Tory Ivy - Lead vocals Tory is an extremely versatile singer, as well as a very entertaining front-man. He has an engaging stage presence, and he really knows how to work a crowd! Tory is blessed with a tremendous vocal range that can handle a variety of music styles ranging anywhere from power ballads to grunge to heavy metal. Tory was a founding member of the local band Diamondback. The band enjoyed many years of local success. In the mid-90’s, Diamondback opened for Night Ranger, Copperhead and Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame. When Diamondback eventually disbanded in 1997, Tory took a break from the music scene to pursue his education. However, he didn't stay out of the limelight for long, as his true passion called him back to the stage, with the formation of Driven in 1998. Aside from a few early personnel changes, Driven has been going full-force ever since.
Brian Pannell - Bass Brian is an extremely solid and well-seasoned bassist. Brian possesses a very technical and articulate style with a thunderous sound to boot. Brian played bass in Driven 2002-2004 but decided to take a break to pursue his education and other interests. When Driven was offered a spot to play an all original set with Leather Nunn at their reunion show in July 2010, Brian was contacted to fill in. After just a few short practices to prep for the show, it was clear that there was a renewed chemistry in the band. After a few discussions on the bands future direction, Brian was offered the full time gig to return as Drivens permanent bass player for 2011. And so the next chapter in Driven history begins....
